Better search engine placement could mean the difference between 100 hits a day and 10,000. Just one top ranking in Google or Yahoo could mean tens of thousands of visitors every day.
Even if your website produces very low numbers, you could make a lot of money every day off of 5,000 visitors. You could pay for those visitord, but I have found that to be a losing proposition and more trouble than it is worth.
Once I learned how to get better search engine placement I began making a few dollars. There are millions of surfers daily who almost always use a search engine, and some keyphrases are searched millions of times a month.
I suggest that you focus all of your attention on Google. Good rankings there will lead to a lot of visitors from off the wall search terms you probably never even considered.
To get better search engine placement you need to work on the following.
1) Get more links to your pages. You can accelerate the process by adding links to yourself on your own pages. You may even want to get a dummy site with a domain name that contains the keyphrase you are targeting with your main site.
Cut and paste about 100 articles and place a sitemap for the main site at the bottom of the pages on the dummy site. Do basic optimization on the dummy site, but don't worry too much about its placement.
2) Go to the Yahoo keyword tool and enter your main keyphrase. Look at the top 50 searches. Take the words that are NOT your keyphrase and use them for your keywords META tag and place them in your template so they appear on every page.
3) Submit articles to article directories to get high PR related links back to your site. And why not link back twice or even more in your biobox? A really good article can get picked up by many other sites, all linking back to you.
4) If you don't have all the basics in good shape, do it now. Especially your titles and other head tags. Google doesn't really use them, but other search engines still do.
5) Add pages. Add as much content as you can. Even as little as 20 new pages could make all the difference in the world, and you can't have too many pages no matter how many you have.
The internet money making game is a game of numbers. The more links you can get to your site, even if it is from another page on your site or a dummy site, the better off you will be in your search engine rank.
So remember, you are better off to create new links for yourself than tweaking a page you have already done all you can do on. New links will lead to better search engine placement.
